Terraria has limitless ways of creating a new world beyond what world evil is generated and how big the world is. In a way, you can also start the same world over and over again. This is done through a feature called a Seed, allowing for the generation of specific worlds by sharing a string of numbers. However, Terraria does have a special feature when it comes to Seeds, so what is it? Let’s have a look at what this is all about, and how you could use this for your next Terraria session with your friends.
What is a Seed?
The first thing we have to establish is what a “Seed” is. Now, the game does have items that are called seeds, but these are not the types of seed we are talking about.
A “Seed” refers to a sequence of numbers that is used for a random number generator. In games such as Minecraft and Terraria, a Seed is used to create a random number generator to create a unique world. You can input a seed by looking for a field on world creation that says “Seed” and typing in here. This can be a sequence of numbers, as well as letters and words. As Seeds are often long numbers, there are billions of ways a world is created.
Seeds also extend to how the game behaves. This can be when an enemy may drop a certain item, when weather events can happen, and even how NPCs move around. Anything that is controlled by random behavior all comes down to what the Seed is.
What’s so special about Terraria?
How Terraria handles seeds is a little more than just typing in a specific sequence of numbers to generate a specific world. What it has is a small set of keywords that not only generate a world in a specific way, but also in ways that are impossible through normal seeds.
These are known as a “Secret Seed” and are specific seeds that can change how the game plays. By typing in the right phrase, the world will generate into a unique but challenging type of world. Many of these seeds can introduce a new challenge to the game, but these challenges are perfect for those that want to get a group together to conquer a world designed in a new and interesting way.
Let’s have a look at some secret seeds for your next multiplayer game.
Drunk World
Seed: 5162020 or 05162020
This seed scrambles up how the game is played. In most seeds, there is a defined way certain biomes are generated, such as what world evil will generate, which side of the map a Jungle and a Snow biome will generate, and what ores can generate.
Seemingly impossible world generation like this made possible by Drunk World.
However, in this Seed, dubbed Drunk World, everything about how the world is completely redone. Jungles and Snow biomes will generate in the same half of the world, sometimes generating together. Ores that have two varieties, such as tin and copper, will both generate. Most importantly, the world will generate both Corruption and Crimson biomes. It’s double the fun, but double the chaos.
Some other things that change include your starting NPC, who is now the Party Girl instead of a guide. It’s all fun and games, because the Guide won’t be here to start.
For those looking to play as a group, this is a great way to wrangle a confused world, and one that could be overrun by all kinds of world evil.
Don’t Dig Up
Seed: don't dig up or dont dig up or dontdigup
For a simple challenge that changes up the game, there is the Don’t Dig Up seed. In this world, progressing through the world is done in reverse order, spawning you at the very bottom of the world. Now, if you know anything about the Underworld, it’s a harsh environment filled with pits of lava. In a Don’t Dig Up world, the starting area is flattened out, clearing out most of the lava so that there’s something to stand and build on.
It’s only upwards from here.
On top of this, the way biomes are generated is quite different. Above the Underworld level is a layer of Glowing Mushroom, with the exception of certain biomes generating over this layer. What was on the surface is now entirely a world evil biome.
Some other minor changes are applied to this type of world. Slimes and Pots have a small chance to drop a Fallen Star, the Hardmode-exclusive Mimic enemy now spawns at the start of the world, and Lava Slimes will not generate lava on death for all difficulties.
This is the perfect option for players looking to get together on a Terraria server with a twist. Unlike other Secret Seeds that aim to make the game harder, Don’t Dig Up offers a new way to play the game.
For The Worthy
Seed: for the worthy or fortheworthy
This is the ultimate seed for the daring of players. If playing Terraria isn’t enough, then what you need is the For The Worthy seed. Everything about the game is made much more difficult. Daring to challenge this seed is not for everyone.
A Legendary world for a Legendary challenge.
To start things off, the difficulty you choose for the world is not what you actually pick. All worlds generated with this seed behave like the difficulty one above the chosen one, including enemy behaviour and damage multipliers. What about worlds that are already Master difficulty, the highest difficulty in the game? This becomes a secret difficulty called Legendary, and will test your mettle.
Various features have also been tweaked to make things harder. Bunnies might end up a little more explosive, pools that would have water are now filled with lava, and watch out for any pots that might contain an unexpected surprise. Fittingly, worlds generated with this seed will start the world with a Demolitionist.
If you and your friends have been playing long enough and feel like Terraria is still too easy, perhaps it’s time to show it off and conquer a Legendary world.
Get Fixed Boi
Seed: get fixed boi or getfixedboi
Maybe you just want to see what happens if every Secret Seed is enabled. No care for if you will make it, doesn’t matter what happens, just throw it all into a blender and see what happens. This is the seed for you.
Anything goes.
As mentioned before, every effect that is applied by a Secret Seed is active on a Get Fixed Boi world. All world evils generate, an entire layer of bee hive is generated underground, hunger is active, and more traps are generated. On top of this, the difficulty is amped up by one level and progression is flipped upside down. At least the effects of Celebrationmk10 are in effect, providing some reprieve in this truly chaotic world.
This seed is also home to the exclusive Mechdusa boss, a mechanical nightmare built on the parts of the three mechanical bosses.
Challenging this seed is best done with your best group of friends, because you will need each other to get through this. It is also the perfect seed for simply messing around in the hopes that you accidentally survive.
Other Secret Seeds to check out
There are more Secret Seeds that can be used to generate a new type of world, some of which do offer an interesting challenge, while others are more innocuous about what they add.
Not The Bees
Seed: not the bees or not the bees! or notthebees
Do you like bees? Have you ever thought that Terraria just doesn’t have enough bees? What if you wanted everything to be nothing but bees? Well, this Secret Seed is just for you, turning the whole world into bees.
Enjoy the sweeter things in life.
More specifically, most of the underground becomes a giant cavernous system of honeycombs and honey. Some biomes will generate as normal, such as the Desert and the underground Jungle, but outside of this, most of worldgen has been replaced with honeycomb, and most water sources have been replaced with honey.
While it is not a challenge in the sense the game is made harder, Not The Bees does make finding certain materials harder as they are swapped out for bee-themed materials. It does make for a thematic playthrough.
Celebrationmk10
Seed: celebrationmk10 or 05162011 or 5162011 or 05162021 or 5162021
This Secret Seed isn’t a challenge. In fact, this one appears to be vibrant, there are more NPCs at the start, and it’s party time! To celebrate Terraria’s 10th anniversary, the Celebrationmk10 Secret Seed was created, painting the land in bright colors and increasing the chances of rare enemy drops.
A multicolored beach in Celebrationmk10.
Unlike most Secret Seeds, this one does not change the game in a way that makes gameplay harder. If anything, the game is made easier as rare and powerful items are showered onto players. For those that want a casual experience, this Secret Seed is just that.
The Constant
Seed: constant or theconstant or the constant or eye4aneye or eyeforaneye
For those who play Don’t Starve Together, this Secret Seed makes Terraria feel closer to home. With some minor changes, such as a sepia filter on the game, altered cave generation, and some increased chances for certain enemy drops, new mechanics added to The Constant worlds.
I don’t think we’re in Terraria anymore.
This mechanic is Hunger, and it adds a new aspect to survival. In order to successfully survive in The Constant world, eating will be important as it staves off the effects of feeling hungry. Failing to maintain your hunger levels will weaken your player, debuffing certain stats before dying of starvation.
On top of this, light will be your best friend as the darkness will become a hazard. At night, there will be no light to see through the darkness, making navigation difficult as visibility is reduced. This, however, is not the only danger present when it comes to darkness in The Constant worlds. Lingering for too long in these areas of no light will also start damaging you. Remember to pack those torches.
If you are up for a new twist with a familiar game, this will be the perfect seed.
No Traps
Seed: no traps or notraps
In this Secret Seed world, there are no traps that will generate, making exploration easier.
It did say “Not placing traps” so these must not be traps, right?
Just kidding, there are far more traps in this world. Exploration is made more challenging as every step could be followed by a sudden hazard. On top of this, new traps are exclusive to a No Traps world. For those looking for a challenge in navigating the world, this is a quick and easy Secret Seed to use.
