Following the huge "Void & Voltage" update in 1.2, version 1.2.1 brings several long-awaited changes to the Core Keeper. Most of the important changes are gameplay additions and tweaks, but there are also a few graphical updates, modding compatibility changes, and tons of bug fixes. Let's check out some of the best parts.
Storage Improvements
The best parts about this update are the storage improvements.
First, we've finally gotten the ability to label chests. I've personally been dreaming of this for a while. Gone are the days where every chest or group of chests has a sign next to it to show what's in it. Now, each chest can have its own label. Chest labels can be applied in the chest's interface, and will show up when you highlight the chest in the world. Being able to label chests in Core Keeper is a drastic improvement and will make storage rooms so much more tidy and manageable.
Next, we've got two new pouches in the form of Potion Pouches and Critter Pouches. These can be equipped to the pouch slots in your inventory, and add additional storage exclusively for potions and critters.
And finally for this section, crafting tooltips now show the total material count available in chests within range of that crafting station, in addition to materials in the player's inventory. This will take some of the guesswork out of crafting when bulk-crafting items especially.

Other Gameplay Changes
There are a few other gameplay changes that are noteworthy.
There is a new character type: Casual. Casual characters keep their entire inventory on death, don't get hungry as quickly, have a more forgiving parry window, and have shorter cooldowns on potion usage. This is great for if you're playing on a controller, or just don't want to have to put on your tryhard pants for some of the bosses if that's not your jam.
This one is one I've personally been wanting for a long time - Meadow Milk is now an ingredient and can be cooked with other ingredients. Of course, this means there are new food combinations to try as well. I know half of you reading this have at least one chest with an unreasonable amount of milk in it, because what else are you supposed to do with all that milk? I have cows because they're wonderful and cute, and if I didn't want to hoard milk, I could just not feed them. But that's rude so I feed them, and they make milk. I also couldn't let the milk sit on the ground and despawn - it would bother me every time I walk past. It seemed wasteful to throw it all away, so I made a milk room to store all of my milk. By now I must have tens of thousands of milk bottles in that room. Anyway, now I can use it all for food!
Another great change is that planter boxes, decorative pots, and terrariums and aquariums are now paintable - even biome-specific ones. Now you can put an aquarium in your rooms in which it previously didn't fit with the color scheme.
And finally, a smaller change - locked Solarite chests can now be found in the Shimmering Frontier, from bodies of water.

Modding
There are a few modding enhancements as well.
The new "QuantumConsole" can be enabled by mod developers and opened in-game with CTRL + X.
Modded items can now be added to workbenches and other crafting stations.
This one is the best part, in my opinion - modders can now modify the in-game mouse cursor, which previously was not changeable.
Miscellaneous
There are tons of smaller changes in this update. I will go over some of the best parts, but check out the full changelog to see it all.
- Name and save icon of an existing world can be changed
- A few new scenes have been added to existing biomes
- Re-organized items in the Creative Mode menu and added new categories and updated existing categories
- Updated some of the Core's dialogue to be more clear about the player's next tasks
- Updated names and descriptions of certain items to improve clarity
- Made it possible to copy a world's seed with a single click in the world settings screen
There is a HUGE list of bug fixes as well, which can be seen in the full changelog.
Conclusion
While this update is technically labeled a "minor update", some of these changes are massive game-changers depending on your playstyle, and many have been requested by players since the very beginning. Even the organizational improvements alone make this update fantastic.
The Core Keeper devs aren't done though. They still have a large roadmap of content to complete and they're going full steam ahead.
