Install CraftBukkit Plugins on a Modded Minecraft Server (Tekkit, Hexxit, Feed the Beast, etc.)

❗️

Archives Only

This article is an archive only. The information is no longer relevant to today's modded Minecraft. It's only useful for old versions. To see more information on adding plugins to a modded server, see this article instead.

You may be able to run CraftBukkit plugins on Forge based Minecraft servers. Popular mod packs such as Tekkit Lite and Voltz have Forge at their core. The following instructions add MCPC-Plus/Cauldron or BukkitForge to your server, which let you run CraftBukkit plugins. They’re experimental, which means your server may or may not continue to work the same as before. MCPC-Plus/Cauldron and BukkitForge may also not support all plugins.

🚧

Cauldron installation and links are out of date. Use Thermos instead (1.7.10 only!).

❗️

This article is for older modpacks only. Hexxit II will not work with plugins.

Before Installation

Check the version of Minecraft you’re running. You can check on the lower left of the first Minecraft screen, after the Mojang splash.

Read on to download a stable build of MCPC-Plus/Cauldron or BukkitForge that matches the version of Minecraft you’re running. You can either install MCPC-Plus or BukkitForge, and not both. If one doesn’t work, try installing the other.

Installation

🚧

Choose either MCPC-Plus or BukkitForge. Installing both will result in some ugly errors!

Minecraft 1.6.4 and Later Using Cauldron

Refer to How to Install a Cauldron Server

Minecraft 1.4.7 and 1.5.2 Using MCPC-Plus

  1. Download the appropriate version of MCPC-Plus (now named Cauldron as of May 31, 2014) from one of the following links:

  2. 9/12/13 Note: Please try to install builds after 9/3/13, as older versions may be vulnerable to a player authentication issue.

  3. Login to your server SFTP and open your game folder. Upload it to the folder.

  4. Go to Command Center. From the server list, find the server you want to modify, and click the Manage button on the right. From that server, click the gear icon and go to Game Update.

  5. Find the MCPC-Plus server JAR from the custom JAR section. Click Install.

Minecraft 1.4.7 and 1.5.2 Using BukkitForge

This method is not recommended. It supports fewer plugins and has some issues. If you are having issues, please try installing MCPC-Plus.

  1. Download the appropriate version of BukkitForge:

  2. Find and download the version of BukkitForge that matches your server version. Blue spheres indicate stable versions.

9/12/13 Note: Please try to install builds after 9/3/13, as older versions may be vulnerable to a player authentication issue.

  3. Login to your server SFTP and open your game folder. Upload it to the coremods folder.

Completing the Install

  1. Restart your server.
  2. Make sure your server works and you can get on.
  3. Get your plugins from Bukkitdev. Be sure to install ones that match your server version. To view all of the available versions of a plugin, click the Files tab beneath the Bukkit logo on the top left.
  4. Connect to your server SFTP. Instructions are in Command Center.
  5. On the left panel (“Local site”), navigate to the folder on your computer that you have downloaded (and extracted) the plugins to.
  6. On the right side (“Remote site”), open the game folder, and then open the plugins folder. If you don’t see it, right-click, and then click Refresh. If you still don’t see it, right-click, and create a new folder.
  7. Drag and drop a plugin .jar from the left pane (“Local site”) into the plugins folder on the right (“Remote site”).
  8. Repeat if necessary. However, we recommend adding one or two plugins at a time and restarting your server in between. As plugins are coded by different people around the world with varying levels of quality control, some may cause stability issues that cause your server to crash. By installing one plugin at a time, you can be certain which plugin is causing an issue.
  9. Restart your server to activate your new plugins.
